New Hanover County Mosquito Control has free larvicide tablets available to the public while supplies last. Tablets are available at:
- Public Health administrative building located at 2029 S. 17th Street
- Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Environmental Health located at the Government Center – 230 Government Center Drive, Suite 140
- Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Larvicides may also be purchased at local home improvement stores or online. Mosquito Dunks® are safe for use around birds, wildlife, children, and pets. The active ingredient, Bti, is a bacterium that only affects the larvae of mosquitoes, black flies, and fungus gnats. Visit the EPA’s website for more information on Bti for mosquito control.
New Hanover County Mosquito Control began actively spraying the entire county after Hurricane Florence on September 24, and staff began spraying all areas of the county a second time on October 2. In addition, Mosquito Control continues to conduct surveillance and analyze mosquito counts and species to inform decisions about spraying.
